Cherry Picking with Katya

I shared in 2020 that I did my first cherry picking with my husband (read here). This time around, I wanted to bring Katya with me and experience this fun activity together 🙂 And I have to say, I had the most fun and unforgettable time with her!

In mid-May, I went to Three Nunns Farm (link here), which is located in Brentwood, California. It’s a known farm town that offers a variety of fruits U-pick experiences. As you may be able to tell from my outfit, I was originally planning to do strawberry picking, but the field was closed due to a lack of ripe strawberries to pick. Change of plan: luckily, cherry was in perfect time to pick and the field was open, so we decided to pick cherries instead.

We were there 5 minutes before the farm opened at 9 a.m., and there were already about 5 families lined up by tractor ride ahead of us. Parking is spacious, so as long as you get there early enough, you don’t need to worry about the parking situation. They provide you with a basket for picking, so there is no need to bring your own. I got this wicker basket just for the aesthetic 😉 There is some distance from the entrance to the cherry-picking area, so we all must ride the tractor to get there. It’s their way of admission fee, which is $2 per person. Despite the cost, I must say, it was not only fun for the kids but for adults too. We went through bumpy terrain with a view of the harvesting field and fun rides. The most fun part was going under the bridge, where there was a puddle of water that got splashy.

Once we got to the field, we were off to the main contents, picking cherries! There were many rows of trees, so in the morning, each family could pretty much pick their own row to pick cherries. Brentwood could get easily up to 100°F, but it was very comfortable and nice weather in the morning. If you are thinking about cherry picking with kids, be ready for the heat. I would highly recommend doing it in the morning, when there are fewer people and it is cooler. But if you choose to go in the middle of the day, bring sun screen and cold drinks!

We got so many cherries to take home, thanks to Katya’s hard work. She got the hang of it quickly and started to pick the only ripe ones 😉 She pretty much picked the whole bunch of cherries, and I was there to hold the basket for her! It was so great to see her hyper-focused and engaged in this activity. I saw so many kids in the field enjoying it as well, so this must be such a hit activity for any kid!

To document this fun experience and matching outfit, I invited Kelly to take a picture of us. I am so glad we did that, as I enjoy natural, in-the-moment photography as well. My husband is not good at taking “cute” pictures while we are in action, so I have to bring Kelly with me haha. Is your husband good at capturing moments? Or doesn’t even pull out the phone to document it? Let me know how your husband is in the photo department! While cherry picking, it was so cute that she wanted me to test out a cherry, so she was shoving cherries in my mouth lol. She also wanted to check if Kelly got the shot, so she occasionally ran to Kelly to look into the camera lol. She looked like a little manager that day 🙂

After we got back to the entrance, we enjoyed fresh strawberry ice cream and strawberry lemonade to cool off. They use real fruits, so it tastes beyond amazing! There are different flavors for both ice cream and drinks, so you can find what you like, and you can definitely treat yourself!  There is also a fun playground by the tractor ride, so I had Katya go wild in there. By the time we left, it was past noon, and it was so crowded. I didn’t see the tractor ride line move up much, so again, get there early if you can. Parking was fully packed when I left as well. Let me know if you have any questions in the comment section, so I can help you get an awesome experience as well. Also, to get the news of the U-pick opening, check out their Instagram page for accurate information. Sometimes there is a delay in harvest, so checking their site would be important to get the most out of it. I hope you stay cool and enjoy your summer filled with fun activities 🙂
