Katya’s 2nd Birthday!

On October 28th, we celebrated her second birthday with family and friends, right on her actual birthday. The preparations were a bit hectic, and I was still setting things up when the guests arrived (as usual), but I’m so glad I went through with it! Despite the stressful planning, it was wonderful to see her surrounded by her amazing support system. I’m sure she had a blast playing with her friends, and that made it all worth it. Below, I’ve broken down all the details by category, and I’ve included links to the products in case you’d like to use them for your own party. Enjoy!

Invitation/Theme

As usual, I used Paperless Post (website here) for the invitations. It’s super user-friendly and makes personalization a breeze. It also tracks RSVPs and shows whether the invites have been opened, which really takes some of the pressure off and simplifies the planning process. I highly recommend Paperless Post for any event you’re organizing.

This year’s theme was ‘2 Glam 2 Give a Damn!’ There were plenty of adorable themes for a two-year-old to choose from, but in the end, I wanted something unique that I hadn’t seen for a kid’s party before. The phrase/theme I picked used to hang in my room when I was in my early 20s, so why not bring it back? Based on that theme, I went with lots of pink and cute details 🙂

Decoration

Based on the theme, everything pink, glittery, floral, bows, and fabulous was chosen for the party decorations. I’ve listed everything I used below! I really enjoyed picking out all the decorations myself and am always on the lookout for new inspiration. For the backdrop, we worked with Petaloons Luxury Balloon Décor (here). I gave them a few ideas, and they took it from there. The result was as vibrant as I could have imagined, overflowing with fabulousness. I’m so glad I didn’t have to worry about the backdrop—it’s such a big part of event planning!

The one part I wanted to really put my personal touch on was the flower arrangement. I came across an extravagant flower display in a shopping cart online and thought, “Why not recreate this on a smaller scale?” So, I picked up a pink shopping cart from Target and added fresh flowers by poking the stems into a wet floral foam. I also placed flowers in shopping bags and a cute pair of matching mother-daughter Hunter rain boots. I think it was such a sweet, personal touch, and the shopping and fashion elements fit perfectly with the fabulous theme. I had so much fun putting the flowers together, I’m already thinking about doing more of this in the future!

Food

For the food, we used a really cute shop called The Board Room (website here), so all I had to do was pick up the food from there. I ordered their ‘Sandwich Catering Board’ for lunch, which included four different types of sandwiches, including one veggie option. For appetizers, I got the ‘Fruit & Crudites Board’ and the ‘Fall Board XL.’ The Fall Board is basically a charcuterie board, and I added some extra crackers and bread to round it out. If you’re in the Bay Area, I highly recommend checking them out. Not only are their boards visually stunning, but they’re also delicious!

For sweets, I ordered cupcakes and cookies. The cookies came from an Instagram page called Heavenly Confections by Sedonia (Facebook page here). I absolutely loved how the designs turned out, especially the credit card cookies! There’s no glamour like the kind you get from a shopping spree, so they were the perfect fit!

For the cupcakes, I went with our usual source, Safeway. I picked up a dozen chocolate and a dozen vanilla cupcakes. I bought cupcake toppers from Etsy (here), and these white and pink bow decorations are so cute! Unfortunately, because I added the bow toppers with my fingers, they got a little messy. So, I’d recommend using kitchen tweezers to handle them for a neater finish!

Birthday Cake

Last but certainly not least—the birthday cake! As usual, I turned to Goldbelly to find the perfect cake, and I found the ‘Famous Vageode® Cake’ (here). I’d never had such an extravagant cake before, but it fit the theme perfectly, so I made my decision right away. One thing I didn’t consider, though, was the final touch: the colored sugar cubes you see in the picture. They come separately, and you have to place them on the cake yourself. We were in such a rush that I don’t think we did the cake justice. My mother-in-law even joked that it looked like… well, a vagina cake. I couldn’t stop laughing. So, here’s to the vagina cake for a two-year-old’s birthday, lol!

At least I learned a few valuable lessons from this party:

1. Read and follow instructions carefully before ordering.

2. Use tweezers to assemble small pieces.

3. Make sure you have plenty of time before the party, so you don’t rush through the preparations!

That’s it for all the details! I’ll be sharing the birthday outfit details next, so stay tuned!

Happy birthday Katya!
