08 Nov 1st Birthday Party Deets
On October 29th, we invited our friends and family to celebrate Katerina’s very first birthday at the beach house! I am not good at planning parties, but for this special occasion, I tried my best to make this day memorable! I breakdown all the details by categories below, and linked things that I purchased for the party.
Invitation/Theme
I used Paperless Post (website here) for the invite. This was the second time using the service, and I was impressed! There are so many creative themes available for kids’ birthdays and just choosing one was tough! To decide the theme, I searched for the 1-year-old birthday party themes on Google, and there were so many cute & clever ones. However, I felt most of them that I saw were old news and I realized the only way to make this unique is to make my own. Then, I have searched for idioms that include ‘one’ and I found “one for the books”. I thought it made sense as a theme because my goal was to make the day memorable! With the theme in mind, I first thought I would get a bunch of children’s books to make decorations, then it was not vibing with me, so I scratched it. In the end, I used the idiom as an inspo and threw in a bunch of beautiful objects like flowers 🙂
Decoration
One of my good friends owns an event service company called S&D Events (website here), so I asked her to create a beautiful backdrop! I told her my vision, which included a bunch of colorful flowers blooming on the panel with a water bucket incorporated somehow. She came to set up the backdrop about 3 hours before the party started and she did the magic! I was so happy to see her drawing come to real life! The flowers were absolutely gorgeous, and there were even flowers coming out of the drawer! When her creation was almost done, she had the epiphany to add a few books into the mix. Luckily, we had some thick books at the beach house, so we used them to tie in with the theme. She said if she has this theme next time, make flowers come out from the opened book, which I think is a fabulous idea too! She also set up the table outside with a bunch of flowers for more seating for the guests!
Another thing I wanted to incorporate was a pink gingham pattern. I found so many cute gingham decorations, so I will list them here. Unfortunately, my orders of cake topper, plates and napkins with a pink gingham pattern went missing, so I changed to plain pink ones.

Food
The day before the party, my mother-in-law and I went food shopping for the party. We had appetizers, drinks, mains, and desserts. I will list out all the food we had for the party, which most of it was from Safeway.
Drinks are all from Safeway. We had water with slices of oranges, lemons, and limes, raspberry lemonade, cans of coke, diet coke, and sprite, beers, and White Claw.
For appetizers, we had charcuteries consisting of a variety of cheeses, salamis, crackers, and grapes, Veggie tray, olives, pepperoncino, and guacamole. For the veggie tray, it was from the Safeway catering menu that was pre-made. Olives and pepperoncino were from a jar, and guac and charcuterie board were made by my mother-in-law.
For the main, we ordered sandwich tray (1 order comes with a dozen 6” sandwiches) from Togo’s (check here on catering section). And for the side, we had potato salad from Safeway.
For dessert, we ordered vanilla and chocolate cupcakes from Safeway bakery. After we picked up the cupcake, we attached the pink gingham wrapper to all of them and added the rose glitter toppers.
Birthday Cake
Finally, the last touch to this party: we needed a perfect birthday cake for her! Because I was so late in planning, the options were limited + I had a small budget. So, I scratched the idea of reaching out to the cake shop to create a custom cake, and started to look online for a faster solution. Luckily, there was a site called Goldbelly that can deliver the cake overnight, so I scheduled the delivery a week prior to the party after choosing the pretty white rose layer cake! You can check the exact cake here!
So here are all the deets! I’m planning to share the details of outfits in the next post, so if you are interested, stay tuned for the next post! Hope this was helpful to you, and if you have any questions, leave a comment below!
Happy birthday Katya!
