Today is the day! 12 months with my not so little princess!! Happy happy birthday my baby!!

Erik went into the 12-month check-up appointment and got the official measurements back. She weighs 20lb 15.3oz (66^thpercentile) and 29inches (38^th percentile.) She gained over 15lb and 10inches in 1 year, and I am beyond proud of her growing into a big girl. She is now officially a toddler, but she is forever my baby!

About the milestones that Katya reached this month are…

Takes a few steps on her own.
Waves “bye-bye.”
Calls a parent “mama” or “dada” or another special name. (More intentional than before)
Babbles with inflection
Shows you an object she likes.
Takes objects out of a container
Explores objects in many different ways (shaking, banging, throwing, dropping.)
Finds hidden objects easily

On October 18^th, I witnessed Katya’s big milestone, which was taking first few steps. Erik claimed he had seen her taking a few steps previously, but you know the rules. If I didn’t see it, it didn’t happen 😉 So far, the most we saw were 7 steps. When she was born, I remembered thinking how big deal it would be for her to one day take a step, so I am so proud of Katya for hitting this milestone. It seemed that just a few days ago, she was just sleeping all day without much movement! We are in bigger trouble since it is only a matter of time for her to fully walk haha.

Katerina now has a total of 6 teeth (4 top, 2 bottom), and practices using those teeth. Till recently, we only fed her baby food from jars, puffs, and teething crackers/wafers. Now that the doctor is advising us to move onto real food, we gave her a small piece of banana and rice. She put them into her mouth without hesitation, but she took them out of her mouth a few times to examine till she finally swallowed them. Once she had enough of them, she threw the rest on the floor. I love the way she tells us she is done… 🙂 I get to clean the floor 3 times a day and can’t ask for anything better lol.

My girl likes to move objects from our living room to the kitchen while I am cooking. She brings her toys to show them to me proudly and carries them back to the living room. She continues to do that a couple of times with a different favorite toy. I don’t know why she does that but it’s super cute 🙂 Another heart-melting moment was when she waved bye. Now she waves her hand when she hears “bye-bye” or sees us wave. Nothing beats the cuteness of this chunky arm rolls waves bye hehe.

It is very bitter sweet to me that ‘milestone picture’ came to an end. I am happy that now I do not need to try hard to keep her steady on the milestone blanket. But I already miss those moments with her. Sleepless nights feel like forever, yet these 12 months were the shortest year of my life! I know I will look back on all the pictures and cherish those moments 😉
