09 May My First Mother’s Day!
Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers and mother figures out there!! This is my very first Mother’s Day so I am super excited! Probably more excited than my birthday! Last year on Mother’s Day, we announced to Erik’s family that we were expecting. Now that I am a mom (can’t believe I’m saying that still!), I have new appreciation for the day! Officially, we have only one day to recognize the love mothers keep pouring to us but mothers deserve love back from us every day! Cheers to motherhood and LOVE YOU mom and grandma 😉
My husband is not the best when it comes to planning a surprise so, I had no expectation of how the day would be like. On the day, I asked him what we were doing, and he told me we were jewelry shopping! He doesn’t like to go shopping and I am not really a jewelry person so this was definitely unexpected lol.
We first went to bagel shop to have brunch before shopping. Then, we went to 6-7 shops including Bay Area-famous Shane Co. I wasn’t sure why he was taking me to jewelry shopping so I asked. He told me it was to buy whatever I wanted (meaning, in Erik language, in the reasonable amount) 😉 To fit in the occasion, I was aiming for something with Katya’s name engraved or a wedding band 🙂 I don’t have my wedding band yet after 2 years being married. I will talk about our unique history of getting wedding/engagement rings in the different post because it will take forever!
I always had a specific wedding band style in mind, but we couldn’t find what I like before. I was looking for a line of baguette diamonds with prong setting that have a same width as my engagement ring. After checking good amount of jewelry shops, it was obvious that nobody made the ring I was looking for. When we visited a shop which happened to be the last one, we explained what we were looking for and they told us the reason why nobody made it like that. According to the shop, baguette diamonds in prong setting was prone to have scratch/chip/fall off. Other shops didn’t tell us that, and they offered to make it in the way I liked. Because of the honesty of the last shop, we felt most comfortable to have them custom make my baguette ring in channel setting. I asked them to make the channel setting as thin as possible since I wanted the diamonds to be the main star! It takes 4-5weeks to complete the custom order, and I cannot wait to finally wear my wedding band with my engagement ring 🙂
After we ordered my wedding band, we walked through the mall, got teakwood scented candles (which are our favorite), and attempted to get Katya’s ears pierced. We went to Claire’s first but earrings that we wanted for her were out of stock so we didn’t go through with it. Then, when we moved the location to downtown Walnut Creek, Erik thought of the tattoo shop he used to work at. Thinking we might be able to get Katya’s ears pierced, we went to Zebra Tattoo & Body Piercing and she got her piercing! She cried a lot that our hearts were wrenching, but she got over it right after. She is such a brave girl! And the earrings on little baby is just the sweetest thing ever! Erik and I were so obsessed!!
After Katya was born, Erik was thinking to get Katya’s name with peony tattooed so, I gave him some money on his birthday for that. Because we were already there, Erik decided to make an appointment to get tattoo 🙂 And, in the end of the day, we ate dinner at sushi place then watched the movie with teakwood candle! It was the day filled with lots of love and I am so thankful for my Hubby and my girl who made me a mom! Hope you all had a great day celebrating the motherhood!!
To all mothers & mother figures,
Fatima
