1 Month with Katya

Happy 1 month to our beautiful daughter, Katya!! My world has changed completely ever since she arrived. I’ve been feeling so much emotions both high and low. I am super happy and over the moon that she is mine but I am so exhausted that falling asleep while I am pumping. Well, sound of pumping could be a great white noise to fall asleep to when you are tired haha.

She is now 7lb 7oz and 20inch long. Even though it is very common for newborn baby to lose weight, I was worried so much when Katya lost her 10% of birth weight in first 3 days. At hospital, she was drinking little amount from syringe which was about 25ml, and now she drinks from bottle that are 2oz and more. She already looks really different from pictures in first few days and I am relieved to see her growing bigger. Can’t wait for her to get chunky!

She had her first Halloween and Thanksgiving in her first month and she experienced many firsts; first, bath, sneeze, nail cut etc. Unfortunately, because of pandemic, she could only meet selective amount of people. One of my friends, and Erik’s parents and cousin came to see her, and it was so nice to see them holding and hanging out with her 🙂 Since Japan has strict quarantine restriction, I’m sad that my family cannot meet her yet, but I am counting my blessings! She is happy and healthy which is the most important thing for us!

Few things I wanted to note…

  • I am obsessed with her Moro reflex, which was scaring me at first but now I adore it 😉
  • I love when she is milk drunk and fall asleep on my chest.
  • I know it is some sort of reflex and not a real smile yet but when she smiles while she is sleeping, it melts my heart.
  • She cannot keep her mittens and socks on for more than a minute, and she likes to have her hands next to her face all the time.
  • She looks like a burrito/caterpillar in her swaddle and she moves so aggressively to get out of it.
  • Sometime swaddle upsets her and other time, it puts her to sleep quickly.
  • Regardless, because she likes her hands next to her face, my little escape artist takes her hands out of swaddle in 5 min.
  • Mommy & Daddy are always trying new techniques to keep her hands down but so far, no luck lol.
  • She makes so much noise while she sleeps but when she is quiet, I get worried if she is breathing.
  • Erik is opposite of me, and he gets worried when she makes noise.
  • When I routinely touch her to check if she is breathing and that cause her Moro reflex, it puts smile on my face.

I can go on and on about her but I will force myself to stop now haha

I was planning to put this monogram onesie at hospital to announce her birth, but because she came 3 weeks early, this outfit didn’t make it on time. This is so me that nothing ever goes according to my plan haha! I love anything monogrammed and pink so this outfit was no brainer for her to wear. How do you like this outfit and what was your baby’s welcome home outfit?
