Spooky Squash Soup

Halloween is almost here!! I cannot wait to share my Halloween outfit with you here but first I want to share one recipe that is perfect for this time of the year  🙂 By the way, if you are thinking this is made-from-scratch type of deal, IT IS NOT! This dish only takes 10 minutes so if you want to add a last-minute addition, this is the perfect option. I am very lazy when it comes to cooking so I like a quick and effortless dish. My goal is always to enjoy cooking without the stress of making it perfect. Here in this blog, I am planning to share my cooking journey with you. I will introduce easy dishes and ideally also learn how to cook more complicated meals <3 I have to have the right mindset to do that though. In the future, when I look back to this very first recipe post, I would like to see how far my cooking skills have come.  Anyway, without further ado, let me introduce the dish I call “Spooky Squash Soup”.  This dish costs me  less than $10 and serves more than 4 people.

To make this soup, you will only need 2 ingredients. (YES ONLY 2!)

1: Canned squash soup

2: Heavy whipping cream (for spider web decoration)

How to make it step by step

1: Pour all the cans you want to use in a pot. I used 4 of them in order to fill my pumpkin bowl. Heat them up until it is hot.

2: Pour all the soup into a bowl for decoration.

3: Draw a swirl on the surface carefully. For the clean line, you can also use a tool like a ketchup container or something like a squeeze bottle so you can control it better. I didn’t use it because It was too much effort lol. (Share in comment section if you know a better idea how to do this!)

4: Grab a knife or toothpick (something pointy) and insert the tip in the circle and swipe outwards to create a spider web effect.

5: Repeat this until you are satisfied with the result.

6: Voila! It’s done!!

Step 1
Step 3
Step 2
Step 6

Even though the cooking part is easy even for kids, the step 3 was very difficult for me since the line wasn’t thin and clean enough. The good thing about this recipe is, if you screwed up, you can stir the bowl until the drawing disappears and start over again. I had to say it took a good amount of patience to make a precise line, but it was a fun project 😉 I tried 4 times and even the end result wasn’t necessarily pretty, but I made it decent enough for my parent in laws to recognize it as a spider web. At the end, I will share my failure versions which I laughed so much about ahaha.

For table setting, I got everything – kitchen towel, glass with a skeleton hand(similar here  & used similar one), and skull salt and pepper shakers (used here  & similar here) from T. J. Maxx except my pumpkin serving bowl which I got from Crate & Barrel.

I hope you enjoy this post and try this for yourself!!

This is one of the failure versions I was talking about. I draw two circles instead of a swirl here. I guess a swirl works better.  I mean this is hilarious right? lol

with love
